So, what did you mean to do?
What what made you decide to click “no”? Did you decide?
Google decision-making and you’ll see a theme: decision-making involves gathering information, weighing options and alternatives, and making an informed choice. So when you decided to click “yes”, you gathered all the information, weighed your options, and made an informed decision. Right?
We make decisions every day. Coffee or tea? Black shirt or red shirt? Leave for work in five minutes or six? But what does it actually mean to make a decision? What makes one decision better than another? What makes an important decision different than one that’s not? What if we can’t make a decision? Or don’t want to?
This is what I’m interested in. I am currently working on my PhD at the University of British Columbia. I’m a social worker, an instructor, and occasionally hike (small) mountains. One of my favourite topics is decision-making. It’s complex, it’s fun, it’s infuriating. It’s all the things that help make a PhD journey even more interesting.
This site is in progress, but then so is my PhD so it seems fitting. I hope you’ll take a look around and come back later to see what’s changed!
